Johannes Kretzschmar aka Beetlebum is a PhD student at the Institute of Computer Science at Friedrich Schiller University in Jena and works on adaptive range models for electric and hybrid vehicles. He is a freelance illustrator and comic artist and enjoys making animated films. He has been publishing his autobiographical comic on his comic blog since 2005. As a winner of the Sondermann (2010) and the Science Slam (champion 2016, runner-up 2013), he has plenty of competitive experience. Together with Lisa Neun, he invented the interdisciplinary stage spectacle "Bitstorm", in which comic artists compete against each other. Since 2014, Comic Solidarity has been spreading the format in various adaptations at events such as Comic Con Stuttgart and the Leipzig Book Fair. As a member of the Kurt Schalker Committee, he awarded the Lebensfenster Prize for graphic blogging from 2011 to 2016.
