Born in La Coruna (Spain) in 1958, Miguelanxo Prado began his career as a cartoonist after studying architecture and working as a writer. His first drawings were published in fanzines. Prado is known for his direct colouring technique, in which the original is already coloured. He has gained international recognition for his comics. His seemingly endearing images evoke rather nightmarish feelings when read, making him, according to Gerhard Habarta and Harald Havas, "probably the most important Spanish comic artist of the younger generation". Prado has won the Angoulême prize for best foreign album twice, the Max und Moritz Prize in Germany in 2004 and the Eisner Award in the USA the same year. In his home country, he won the Grand Prize at the Salón del Comic in Barcelona in 2007. His influence extends as far as Japan, where he has inspired comic artist Taiyō Matsumoto. His collection of short stories "Der tägliche Wahn" made him famous in Germany, and recently his graphic novel "Ardalén" (Egmont) was published, which won the award for best Spanish comic in 2016. KREIDESTRICHE was first published by Egmont in 1999. Cross Cult will publish a new edition in May 2024 - in large format and with previously unpublished material.
