“Schwermetall” (1980-2000) and its sister magazine “U-Comix” were among the most important comic magazines for adults in German-speaking countries. Numerous artists had their first publications in Schwermetall. From its beginnings at Volksverlag to the move to Alpha-Comic-Verlag in Nuremberg, and the takeover by Edition Kunst der Comics in Sonneberg, the exhibition sheds light on the exciting journey of this medium. Particular attention is paid to the development of underground and adult comics and their confrontation with censorship challenges from overzealous public prosecutors.
