Reinhard Kleist, born in Hürth in 1970, studied graphics and design in Münster. He has lived and worked in Berlin since 1996. Reinhard Kleist has published numerous comics, including with the publishers Ehapa, Landpresse, Reprodukt, Edition 52 and Carlsen. In addition to his comic works, the Berlin artist created illustrations for books and record covers. Reinhard Kleist has already been awarded several prizes for his comics, including the Max und Moritz Award for "Cash - I see a darkness". He won the Deutsche Jugendliteraturpreis with "Der Boxer". Before the biography of the Jewish boxer, Reinhard Kleist created the comic biography "Castro" and published the travel diary " Havanna - eine kubanische Reise" in the run-up to it. For "Der Traum von Olympia" he received, among others, the Jahres-LUCHS 2015 and the Gustav-Heinemann Friedenspreis 2016. After publishing his comic biography "Nick Cave" in 2017, in which he re-narrated the musician's eventful life, Reinhard Kleist received the Max und Moritz Award for Best German-language Artist (2018). In "Knock Out!" he deals with an extraordinary boxer's life for the second time. With "Starman - The Ziggy Stardust Years" he has created a first graphic memorial to the English musician of the century David Bowie - to be continued with "Low" about Bowie's Berlin years.
