Maurizio Onano is a German author, illustrator and comic artist from the Ruhr region. In 2016 he completed his B.A. in "Illustration" and in 2019 his M.A. in "Visual Narration" at the Folkwang UdK in Essen. He is a former scholarship holder of the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes, was awarded the Buntspecht Nachwuchspreis for picture book illustrations in 2020 and was a finalist for the Berthold-Leibinger-Stiftung Comic Book Award in 2024.
In his artistic work, Maurizio mainly deals with questions of identity, especially queer identity.
