Die Sirene (FR/DE/LU/BE 2023)

Iran in the year 1980: After the revolution, followed the war. The story of the 14-year-old Omid begins here. He lives in the port city of Abadan in the south-west of the country. When the city gets hit by an Iraqi missile attack, a lot of its inhabitants lose their homes. Everyone fit for military service is recruited for war, including Omid’s older brother. Their mother and their younger siblings could make their escape, but Omid stays back with his grandfather, even though he would have liked to fight in the war instead. He works a food-delivery-boy and tries to help in any way he can. In his search for an opportunity to escape with his grandfather, he finds a ship that he then repurposes into an arc to rescue everyone he loves.
