Amany Al-Ali (Syria), Mar Maremoto (Mexico), Victoria Lomasko (Russia), Rachita Taneja (India) and Ann Telnaes (USA) are known for their political drawings and are part of the "Draw for Change!" project, which includes a series of documentary films and a book of the same name. Victoria Lomasko (curator of the exhibition and artist): "Despite the ambitious title, our stories show that you can spend years creating political illustrations, and in the meantime the situation in your country is only getting worse. What value do political drawings have if they don't lead to the desired change? Even if we cannot influence historical processes with our illustrations, we document them as contemporary witnesses and thus create space for dialogue. Our drawings give a voice to the invisible - even if we ourselves may face pressure to be silenced - they raise awareness about the threats to press freedom. I could say that our works do not call for revolution, but for evolution. And that is common for female artists."
